We went to Singapore for a long weekend recently, We went to Singapore for a long weekend recently, and I wanted to visit the Peranakan Museum because I heard they had some textiles on display… but I was not at all prepared to have my mind blown by the quantity and variety of incredible, stunning, and intricate pieces. The first image is beadwork, measuring over 3 ft square, pieced from the tiniest beads imaginable. There were many examples of this crazy detailed beadwork and I was blown away. There were also multiple skillfully hand-dyed batiks, like the beautiful red fabric with the birds. Most of these fabrics were used for sarongs. An absolute must visit if you’re in Singapore and you’re a textile nerd like I am! So many beautiful and impressive things. #peranakanmuseum
Fabric shopping in Japan is just the best. It’s Fabric shopping in Japan is just the best. It’s an amazing feeling to realize that I know what my favorite fabric store in THE WHOLE WORLD is!! And its name is Tomato. These photos were all taken there, one of the happiest places on earth. This was a rushed trip but I still took home some gems (and spotted some hilarious others).

The Portland International Rose Test Garden is abs The Portland International Rose Test Garden is absolutely stunning. My body clock was still set to EST on the day of my visit, which was a gift because I was able to visit the garden early in the morning and spend hours there, soaking in the colors and the views. The juxtaposition of the delicate roses against the backdrop of enormous, hardy pines, was stunning. It was a magical place and I loved it.
I did it! I made a shirt and wore it! It’s a #me I did it! I made a shirt and wore it! It’s a #memademay miracle! This lemon fabric was from a RTW shirt that just wasn’t quite right (swipe for before). An odd fit with thin straps that didn’t work well with the floaty rayon/poly fabric, and a color that I desperately wanted to wear but wasn’t a good fit directly against my skin tone. This shirt has been in my “in-progress” drawer for a very long time, and this weekend I finally dove in. Sliced off the top, added a yoke with grown on sleeves. Sounds simple but it took most of a day. I love how happy this fabric is and glad I finally get to wear it! And glad to be able to participate in #memademay2022 in this small way. #samanthasewsclothes #lemonfabric
David and I went to the @miamibeachgarden today to David and I went to the @miamibeachgarden today to drop off some compost, and these turtles were just doing turtle yoga on their little rock. The guy in the rear balancing with his foot splayed out; the guy in the front tucked his other front arm into his shell as we watched. No hands! They moved their necks slowly, blinked their wrinkled eyes, held their balance. I was transfixed and so very entertained. They are the definition of zen. We have a lot to learn from these turtle yogis! 🧡
I can’t believe we passed mid-February… I feel I can’t believe we passed mid-February… I feel like it was just yesterday that I finished my 2022 vision board. I love this ritual and now make a collage every year. One emerging theme is that I want to permit myself to take up more space. My default lately has been subdued, even borderline shy, and I’m ready to live a little louder and brighter. Here on my vision board, that’s captured in bright colors and words like SPARKLE and BOLD. 2022, let’s bring on the sparkles.

A tiny sewing tools upgrade! I made a new cover fo A tiny sewing tools upgrade! I made a new cover for my pressing ham (swipe for before). The old one was so ugly and it certainly wasn’t necessary but the new one is so happy! It was easy enough to make the cover but getting it tight and sewing the cover shut was tricky. A tailors ham is filled with sawdust- who knew??! So there’s absolutely no give in the filling which means the fabric has to fit just right. I used canvas on one side and wool on the other so hopefully it stands up to lots of pressing ☺️🤞

Our trip was The. Best. But home is pretty good t Our trip was The. Best. But home is pretty good too. After a year (so much more than a year) of staying home, it felt so good to leave and come back again. Such an important feeling, that reclaiming of “home”. Currently, that reclaiming means embracing Miami’s version of nature. I’ve been getting outside again even though it’s so dang hot. I still prefer mountains over beaches but I gotta say… this place ain’t bad.

Colorado Mondays, just like most days in Colorado, Colorado Mondays, just like most days in Colorado, are made for being outside. We spent the morning driving through Rocky Mountain National Park, and did the first section of our drive on this crazy historic road. It’s called Old Fall River Road, and it was opened in 1920. It’s one way, one lane, dirt and gravel, with no guardrails and lots of switchbacks. It was so fun to drive and it really felt like we were in the middle of something special. Every time we saw a patch of snow on the mountains I would squeal. Mountains are the best.
The impetus of our Colorado trip was an incredible The impetus of our Colorado trip was an incredible highlight of the trip but also my LIFE. Guster played Red Rocks… with the Colorado Symphony. It was unbelievable. Red Rocks is the most amazing venue, and @guster was floored to see so many of their fans in one place. They clearly have so much fun making music together and it’s delightful to watch. It was such an awesome show. Absolutely worth flying across the country for!
On Saturday evening we visited the gorgeous Denver On Saturday evening we visited the gorgeous Denver Botanic Gardens where I swooned over wildflowers and adorable cacti. There were also bunnies. 😍 This was my first wear of my new #ddsirocco jumpsuit that I made just in time for the trip! I LOVE it and it was so fun to make. I loved the quilt-like design of one of the garden gates (photo 3). It was such an inspiring and well-designed place. Then it was off to @acreagecolorado for tasting ciders, incredible food, and the most delectable apple cider donuts. Yum. And, of course, wonderful company.
On Saturday morning we went for the most gorgeous On Saturday morning we went for the most gorgeous hike with my cousins. I was thrilled to spend time among real trees and majestic mountains. We hiked ALMOST 7 miles (6.9 to the chagrin of our Fitbits/Apple watches) to a gorgeous lake set in the mountain top. Plus, I even got to wear a sweatshirt, which is always a cozy event for this reluctant Florida resident.
